Instructional Council Summary Statement – May 21, 2015

May 21, 2015

Instructional Council approved to proposals:

  1. AP Resources – this proposal up-dates the materials used in AP classes based on Colege Board approved texts. Professional development will be provided by the vendors to all AP teachers receiving new resources.
  2. Early Implementers for middle school math. Middle school will move to the Eureka math program over the next two years. Those who are ready to work with this math program will be given the opportunity to begin next year. Those selected will be required to meet periodically throughout the year. A Call to Committee will go out for those who are interested in participating.

Instructional Council also reviewed 2 additional proposals which were not immediately approved.

  1. The council has requested additional information from CTE regarding their Precision Manufacturing proposal. If information is received we will act on the proposal next week at a special IC meeting.
  2. The council also has requested additional information from Socials Studies regarding their high School electives proposal. This proposal covered many electives – Law I and Law II, Sociology, Psychology, World History, and World Geography.

Instructional Council heard a proposal from Science which asked for the use of Early Implementers to work with the K to 8 science curriculum. The curriculum writers used the NGSS, our new Illinois State Standards to up-date the curriculum.  The EI’s would implement the new curriculum, make suggestions if change is needed, and review materials to support the program. They would be chosen through a call to committee and would receive PD throughout the year.

Instructional Council also heard a proposal for ELA Resource Adoption for Middle School and High School, 6-12th grades. The sixth grade through tenth adoption would be an on-line program, StudySync, and materials to support this in the classroom. Eleventh and Twelfth grade would get anthologies composed of materials they select. These would be phased in over the next several years.

ELA Reading Curriculum changes were also presented for Secondary. These include Reading Strategies I and II and Critical Reading in Middle School and High School Literacy Lab Curriculum Frameworks. Material adoption to support these programs is included in the proposal.

These proposals will be discussed at our meeting next week with possible approval.

Instructional Council heard presentations about the Go-Noodle Pilot for elementary Schools for next year. This is supported by Alexian Behavioral Health and Fit for Kids.

Instructional Council also heard a report on CORE Collaboration and how it will extend to include 22 elementary schools next year.
