Instructional Council Notes – March, 2015

Instructional Council, March 19, 2015

 Summary Statements:

Instructional Council approved the Middle School Health proposal and created a memo to accompany the proposal when it is presented to the Board of Education.  Middle School Health will be a 9 week, stand-alone program and will use a behavior choice model. Work will continue to align the Health program in K-12th grades.

Instructional Council received information on the Technology Plan, MTSS and the Special Education Audit.

~ IS has created a 3 year plan to introduce additional technology and to update systems. The plan was developed around the beliefs that technology should be a tool to enhance teaching and learning, should tie in with the Frameworks for Teaching, and should prepare students with the skills needed to be a productive member of society.

~ MTSS is looking to find ways to increase awareness of materials,  trainings, and support  available through the department. The MTSS Committee will put out a report  regarding the work done this year and what it plans going forward.

~ Special Education department has created a 5-7 year plan based on last year’s audit, focus group reports, and school visits. It will include a “Red Book” update, pre-school expansion, and an evaluation of materials used throughout the district.

Instructional Council discussed possible dates for the 15-16 school year, they will be discussed again next month after receiving additional feedback. Meetings are held on Thursdays throughout the year.
