President’s Insights 5-6 – TA Ratified

President’s Insights

5-6-19

Tonight, the school board voted 7-0 to ratify the tentative agreement that we agreed to last week.  This brings closure to multiple of years of negotiations. For the first time since the start of the 2015-2016 school year, members will start a school year with a contract that is not set to expire at the end of the year.
What this means for us now is we have work to do.  I have seen the calls for training and clarification in a number of areas and we will be doing all of that.  We need to empower our membership. Our member voices at the tables of SIP and SD, the various committees we have throughout the district, and as part of the new safety council is more important than ever.  We need to hear the voice of members as we strive to provide the very best educational system for our students and our communities.
Finally, I want to wish all of you a Happy Teacher Appreciation Week.  The work we do with our students day in and day out is so important and we should take some time during this week to reflect on our practice.  By the end of the week, there will be a small token of appreciation delivered to your schools. I am thankful and appreciate the work you all do every single day.
Have a tremendous rest of the week.
