January 21, 2020
At this months Representative Assembly I took some time to reflect on the last year and the state of the Elgin Teachers Association. Below is a link to that speech that I wanted to share with all of our members. We have come together to strengthen are union over the last year and I am confident that we will accomplish so much more. It is thanks to the hard work of our membership that we have more members than ever before, and a stronger union than ever before.
Our spring election is coming quickly and the nomination window closes on February 7. The positions up for election are Presidential Slate (President, 1st VP, and 2nd VP), positions on the ETA Board of Directors (Minority Director, Section 2 and 4 Elementary Directors, and Section 2 and 4 Secondary Directors), spots of our Instructional Council and Special Education Committee. In addition, we are electing our 2020 NEA Delegates. This year the NEA representative assembly will be held in Atlanta, Georgia from July 2-6.
These elections are a great opportunity for you, The ETA membership, to be involved and have a voice in the ETA. If you or somebody you know would like to be nominated, click the link below to nominate yourself or others for any of the above positions.
Salary Transcript Update
Human Resources continues to review transcripts. As we have shared at the RA, if you have questions about your transcripts and the status of the transcript review, to email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We have been made aware through this transcript review process of members receiving incorrect salary and remind members that it is their professional responsibility to be aware that their pay is correct.
Over the last six months we have provided members with 5 different training’s. Those trainings are all available on the ETA website and are a great resource for all members. There is a new drop down on the menu bar called “ETA Membership Trainings” that will provide you with a list of all 5 training’s.
TWE is coming. The TWE Scholarship Night will take place at Larkin High School on April 21. If you are interested in helping out with this event please email ETAthosewhoexcel@gmail.com
Calling Early Career Teachers
The Elgin Teachers Association has been selected to participate in an exciting program – the NEA/CEC Early Career Leadership Fellow (ECLF) Collaborative.
The ECLF Collaborative is funded by a grant from the National Education Association (NEA) with support from the Consortium for Educational Change (CEC) in Illinois. Through this program, the Illinois Education Association will support Early Career Leadership Fellows to:
- Self-assess leadership skills and engage in learning activities to grow as a leader;
- Learn about the Association, related leadership skills and pathways to association leadership;
- Identify and engage five other early career educators in one-on-one conversations and ongoing work through the association based on their interests and passions
Early career educators under the age of 35 who are within the first 5 years in the teaching profession are encouraged to apply. The Elgin Teachers Association will select 10-15 Fellows who also have demonstrated success in improving teaching and learning, show promise and initial interest in future union leadership and reflect the diversity of America’s classrooms.

At the RA, Carol Mammosser presented on the recently completed audit. The audit gives us a clean bill of health in terms of our finances. This is the first full audit we have had in ten years and we should be proud of the fact that our finances are in order and up to date.
We recently completed an update of our membership list in Constant Contact. We removed email addresses that were not having our emails delivered, as well as duplicate emails, and non members. If a member in your building is not receiving these emails, they can click the link on the left side of the ETA website or you can forward them the below link to get them signed up for these messages.
BAM is Back
Lastly, BAM is back and our first winner was South Elgin High School. We will be in contact with the head representative there to schedule a morning to go over there to enjoy some muffins and meet with members of the staff.
Be sure if you are attempting to contact me, to use the email email@example.com. Thank you again for all you do to make the ETA stronger than ever.
