Instructional Council Summary January 21, 2016

  • Instructional Council approved revisions and additions to the following High School electives: International Relations, World History, Sociology, and Psychology courses. Resources and trainings are planned around these revisions.
  • Instructional Council heard presentations for revisions and additions to Law I, Law II, and World Geography. These will be discussed at our February meeting.
  • Instructional Council also heard a proposal for changes to BEACON academy to allow for students to take PE as required and still attend necessary BEACON classes. This would make BEACON classes 1.5 periods instead of the current 2 periods. The concern is students will opt not to continue in BEACON if it means they will not have a choice of electives.
  • Instructional Council received an update on Standards Based Learning related to math for next year. The proposal includes many sessions to explain SBL as it will be used in math for secondary. The point was made that this would be open to any secondary teacher who wants to look ahead to the SBL process for any particular subject area. These workshops run from late spring through summer and will be posted on Coursewhere.
  • Instructional Council received an update about Science and the work that early implementers have done, K through 8. A proposal regarding changes to curriculum will be coming to Council in the very near future.

Questions or concerns, please contact a member of Instructional Council.
