TWE Hosts Documentary

The Elgin Teachers Association (ETA) through our nonprofit Those Who Excel is hosting a viewing of the documentary “American Teacher” narrated by Matt Damon. “American Teacher” was developed through a partnership between Microsoft and The Teacher Salary Project,  a nonprofit organization.  ETA is hoping to begin conversation about teaching today with our community and raise money to support scholarships for High School Seniors in U46 intending on entering the educational profession.

The showing is free, but we will be accepting donations at the door. Our Future Teacher Clubs will also be accepting food donations for the local food pantry.

A preview of the film is at www.theteachersalaryproject.org

The viewing will take place on Thursday January 19, 2012 at South Elgin High School’s auditorium.  Doors will open at 4:00 pm with the film beginning at 4:30.

  1. As a concerned citizen, I find it difficult to believe that U-46 teachers are still is without a contract. When you respect teachers, you respect their contract. If you look at the recent audit (ISBE 50-36) the fund balances that provide professional wages and benefits and hire teachers to lower class size, are as follows: Education Fund: nearly $30 million; Working Casah Fund: nearly $90 million. That’s almost $120 million sitting in the bank. Is the community aware of this excessive cash sitting in the bank? If not that shold be used by your union as a tool to a contract.
